New measures of well-being: Flourishing and positive and negative feelings. Social Indicators Research 97, 143–156; Watson, D., Clark, L.A., & Tellegen, A. (1988). Development and validation of brief measures of positive and negative affect: The PANAS scales. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology 54(6), 1063–1070. FAQ + disclaimer
Is life satisfaction the same as happiness?
No. The SWLS measures how you judge your life as a whole. Moment-to-moment happiness is different and is usually measured with mood scales like PANAS.
Will my score change?
Yes. Life satisfaction scores shift with life events, relationships and health. One score is a snapshot, not a verdict.
