How to calculate FLAMES

Write two names, ignore spaces and punctuation, then cross out matching letters in pairs. Each letter can only cancel one letter in the other name. Uppercase and lowercase count as the same letter.

Count the letters left. Starting at F, count that many places around FLAMES and remove the letter you land on. Start the next count at the following letter. Keep going until one letter remains. Open “How we got it” to follow your own names through the game.

This is a playground game, not a prediction. No letter can tell you how someone feels, who you should date or whether a friendship will last. A kind conversation tells you much more.

FLAMES questions

How does the FLAMES game work?

Cancel letters shared by the two names, one pair at a time. Count the uncancelled letters, then use that count to remove letters around the FLAMES ring. Resume counting from the next letter after each removal. The last letter is your playful result. If no letters remain in the names, we show a perfect mirror instead.

What does each letter in FLAMES mean?

F means Friends, L means Lovers, A means Affectionate, M means Marriage, E means Enemies and S means Siblings. Enemies is just playful rivalry here, and Marriage is not a proposal or a prediction. Every result is just for fun.

How to calculate FLAMES on paper?

Write Rahul and Priya. Cross out one R and one A from each name: H, U, L and P, I, Y remain, so the count is 6. Counting around FLAMES removes S, F, A, L and E, leaving M for Marriage. Keep counting from the letter after the one you just removed.
