How to Calculate Love Percentage on Paper

All you need is paper, a pen and two names. Follow the TRUE LOVE number pyramid or the FLAMES counting game, with every step shown for Rahul and Priya.

These paper games are for fun, not a prediction. Names cannot measure love or tell you how someone feels.

TRUE LOVE: a name compatibility test (TikTok)

There are several paper and TikTok variants. This is our calculator’s adjacent-sum version, which keeps the units digit of each sum. Use the same rule throughout to get the same answer.

  1. Write both names together in Latin letters. Ignore case, spaces, punctuation and accents. Our example becomes rahulpriya.
  2. Write T R U E L O V E above a row. Count each letter across both names. Count E once, then write that same total in both E positions. For Rahul and Priya, the counts are T=0, R=2, U=1, E=0, L=1, O=0, V=0, E=0.
  3. Write those counts as digits: 0 2 1 0 1 0 0 0. If a count has more than one digit, write each digit separately.
  4. Add each neighbouring pair to make the next row, keeping only the last digit of each sum. Repeat until two digits remain. Every addition for our example is shown below.
  5. Read the last two digits as a percentage, including a leading zero if there is one. Our last row is 2 8, so this game gives 28%.

FLAMES: cancel letters and count around the ring

FLAMES gives a label rather than a percentage: F for Friends, L for Lovers, A for Affectionate, M for Marriage, E for Enemies (playful rivals here), S for Siblings. None describes your real relationship.

  1. Write Rahul and Priya on separate lines. Ignore case, spaces, punctuation and digits; keep letters and their attached vowel marks.
  2. Cross out matching letters in pairs, one from each name. Each occurrence cancels only one occurrence in the other name. Here is the exact cancellation:

    Rahul: R A H U L

    Priya: P R I Y A

  3. Count all uncancelled letters. We have H U L and P I Y, giving 6 letters in total.
  4. Write FLAMES in a ring. Starting at F as one, count 6 places, wrapping around as needed. Remove the letter you land on. Start the next count at the next surviving letter, again counting it as one. Keep using 6 until one letter remains.
  5. For these names the removals are S, F, A, L, E, in that order. The last letter is M: Marriage. If every name letter cancels, our calculator shows “Perfect mirror” instead of counting.

Is the online love calculator the same paper method?

Our love calculator by name uses a fixed name hash for its playful percentage. It does not count TRUE LOVE letters or play FLAMES, so the scores can differ. Use the matching calculator above to check your paper working.

For another name game, try the love or arranged marriage calculator. It is also just for fun.

Paper love test questions

How do you calculate love percentage on paper?

Write two names, count T, R, U, E, L, O, V, E across both names, then add neighbouring digits row by row. Our TRUE LOVE variant keeps each sum’s last digit until two digits remain. Read those as a playful percentage, not a measurement of feelings.

Why do different paper love tests give different answers?

They use different rules. Some count other words or reduce numbers differently. This guide follows the exact TRUE LOVE variant and FLAMES rules in our calculators, so its worked examples match those tools.

Does FLAMES give a love percentage?

No. FLAMES gives a relationship label from a counting game. It does not produce a percentage. We include it because it is another paper name game, but its label cannot be converted into a meaningful love score.

Can I use a nickname or names in another script?

You can try nicknames, but changing spelling can change the game. TRUE LOVE counts Latin A–Z letters, so use a Latin spelling and ignore accents. FLAMES compares Unicode letters and keeps vowel marks attached. Neither approach assesses a person or relationship.

Is a paper love percentage accurate?

No. These games are for fun, not a prediction. A high result is not proof someone likes you, and a low one is not rejection. Respectful conversation and consent matter more than any number or letter.
