TEST-YO!

Archetype · What Kind of Dad

Best-Friend Dad

Inside-joke dad

Inside-jokes · Trust · Allergic-to-no

You hear the gossip first and your "no" sounds suspiciously like "fine".

What this archetype looks like

You want closeness with your child, not distance. The good part is that they may actually talk to you, trust you and share their inner life. The hard part is keeping the parent line clear. A child should not become the person who manages your feelings or hears adult problems they cannot hold. What helps is staying warm while still being the parent: close, but not dependent on them.

Strengths

  • Kid actually talks to you
  • Cross-generational closeness

Watch-outs

  • Hard "no"s are harder
  • Friend can crowd out parent
