Self-Management

Self-Management is the second Goleman EQ domain. It is the ability to regulate your own emotions — especially disruptive ones — instead of acting on them reflexively.

Self-Management depends on Self-Awareness: you can only regulate what you notice. Techniques that transfer in research include cognitive reappraisal, delaying responses by 10 seconds, and pre-committing to rules ("when X happens, I will Y").
