O tym teście

The Dark Triad is Machiavellianism, narcissism, and subclinical psychopathy — three overlapping-but-distinct traits everyone carries somewhere on the dial (Paulhus & Williams, 2002). This quiz uses the 27 statements from the Short Dark Triad (SD3, Jones & Paulhus, 2014) and scores each trait cluster separately before telling you which one runs hottest in your profile. Not a diagnosis, just a mirror.

Jak liczymy wynik

Based on the Short Dark Triad (SD3): Jones, D. N., & Paulhus, D. L. (2014). Introducing the Short Dark Triad (SD3): A brief measure of dark personality traits. Assessment, 21(1), 28–41. The Dark Triad construct itself was proposed by Paulhus, D. L., & Williams, K. M. (2002). The dark triad of personality: Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Journal of Research in Personality, 36(6), 556–563. This quiz uses the 27 published SD3 items (9 per facet) and sums them into separate Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy scores; it has not been independently re-validated as a web instrument, so results are best read as self-reflection rather than clinical measurement.

What is the Dark Triad?

The Dark Triad is a set of three overlapping-but-distinct personality traits — Machiavellianism (strategic manipulation), narcissism (grandiosity and need for admiration), and subclinical psychopathy (impulsivity and low empathy) — named and studied together by psychologists Delroy Paulhus and Kevin Williams in a 2002 paper. Everyone has some amount of each; the traits form a spectrum, not a category you either have or don't.

What is the Short Dark Triad (SD3)?

The SD3 is a 27-item self-report questionnaire published by Daniel Jones and Delroy Paulhus in 2014 as a brief way to measure all three Dark Triad traits (9 items each) without the length of earlier, longer batteries. This quiz uses those 27 published items.

Is this the same as the Dark Tetrad?

Not quite. Some researchers add a fourth trait, everyday sadism, to form the "Dark Tetrad." This quiz measures the original three-trait Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy) and does not include a sadism scale.

Does this quiz give me a separate score for each trait?

Yes. Your answers are summed separately into three facet scores — Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy — and your archetype reflects whichever facet (or combination) stands out most in that breakdown, rather than a single overall "darkness" number.

Does a high score mean I have a personality disorder?

No. The SD3 measures everyday variation in three trait clusters within the general population. It is not a clinical instrument and cannot diagnose anything.

How is this different from narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) or antisocial personality disorder (ASPD)?

NPD and ASPD are clinical diagnoses in the DSM-5, made by licensed professionals using structured criteria, interviews, and history. The narcissism and psychopathy traits measured here are subclinical — normal-range personality variation that most people show a little of — not a disorder. A high score on this quiz says nothing about whether someone meets diagnostic criteria for either condition.

Is this a scientifically validated test?

The 27 items are the published SD3 wording from Jones & Paulhus (2014), and the scoring follows their three-facet structure. We have not independently run reliability or validity studies on this specific web implementation, so treat your result as an honest self-reflection exercise based on a peer-reviewed instrument, not a certified psychometric assessment.

Can my score change over time?

Personality traits, including Dark Triad traits, tend to be relatively stable in adulthood but are not fixed. Mood, context, life experience, and how honestly you answer on a given day can all shift your result — retaking the quiz later may give a different profile.

Why only four archetypes?

To keep results readable. The underlying scoring still uses all three separate facet scores; the archetype is a plain-language summary of where your profile leans, not a replacement for the raw scores.

How long does the test take?

About 7 minutes for the 27 Likert-scale items.
