General psychology

Secure attachment

Secure attachment is one of the four adult attachment styles. Securely attached people are comfortable with both intimacy and autonomy, tend to trust partners and seek support directly under stress.

About 55–60% of the adult population is estimated as securely attached. Security in adulthood is shaped by childhood caregiving but also by adult experience — "earned secure" describes people who moved from insecure to secure through therapy or stable relationships.
